Not Able to Get PIN When Trying to Sign In

May 22, 2011 at 8:05 PM

I just installed TweetMyPC on Windows XP and am havnig problems running it the same as the error submitted on Jan 4 by gdimartino.  I recieve the Unexpected Error happened window anytime I try to click on a menu item under About.   I also do not receive a PIN when trying to Sign in with Twitter button.  No window opens with my twitter account.  (I did not enter an email because I don't have a gmail account. Is it necessary?)

Here is my log:

5/22/2011 3:23:37 PM    Status changed to 'Checking deactivated until you close the configuration-window.'
5/22/2011 3:23:50 PM    TweetMyPC will now open a Twitter Website where you have to allow access for your Twitter-Account, so that TweetMyPC will.......
5/22/2011 3:24:03 PM    oops! A totally unhandled exception is raised:

ok, I just uploaded a new Version of TweetMyPC that should fix the problem.

TweetMyPC automatically checks for updates at program start every 3 days and will ask you to install the update.

Or just uninstall the old version and reinstall the new one from http://basisbit.de/projekte/TweetMyPC/

I hope this will fix the authentication problem.

May 25, 2011 at 12:23 PM

I downloaded the new version 3.9.0.2 but am still basically having the same problems. The Twitter website does not open when I click Sign In With Twitter and the program crashes when I select the Basic Command List in the About menu. I am able to shutdown the PC and execute my custom commands by using the Send Test Tweet selection in the icon right click menu, but that doesn't appear to be going through my Twitter account since I don't enter any Twitter account info.
Here's the log showing attempts to Sign In With Twitter and using the About => Show Browser Box menu and Basic Command List menu items:

What page do you see if you click Show BrowserBox in the menu?

Also please check if you have installed all Microsoft Updates for your Computer (Windows XP SP 3, .Net Framework 3.5 SP1,...)

By the way: no, you don't need to enter any email-data.

May 25, 2011 at 11:28 PM

I see the Twitter login page. Nothing seems to happen on it, though. I never see any popup or anything about allowing access.
I have Windows XP SP3 and .Net Framework 4. I also have .Net Framework 3.3 SP1, .Net Framework 3.0 SP 2 and .Net Framework 2.0 SP1 and .Net Framework 1.1, which I don't seem to be able to remove.

what McAfee software? Total Protection or Internet Security or what?

if you have it's firewall activated, then you might have to allow TweetMyPC to access the internet.

May 26, 2011 at 12:16 PM

McAfee SecurityCenter ... I tried setting the Firewall, anti-spam and Real-Time Scanning OFF. Still had same problem.

do you have mono installed on your computer?

it looks like your installation of the .Net Framework is broken (or some files are missing / corrupted)

it might help to try a repair-installation of the .net framework 3.5 SP1

does tweetmypc actually show you the messagebox after clicking the "Sign In" Button?:

"TweetMyPC will now open a Twitter Website where you have to allow access for your Twitter-Account, so that TweetMyPC will be able to answer to your tweets/commands securely...."

May 28, 2011 at 12:58 AM

yes. the messagebox appears after several seconds.
What is mono? I will look into reinstalling the .Net Framework.
Thanks

could you please also try this:

press Windows-Key+R at the same time and enter http://twitter.com and then press the ok-button.

does this open a website or show an error message?

May 30, 2011 at 2:17 PM

shows an error popup for "application not found"

ok, then forget the other instructions.... you have to tell windows with what application to open http and https links... then tweetmypc will work :) (if you have opera or safari or firefox or google chrome or... installed, then you have to make it your standard application for opening website addresses.)

by the way: you are welcomed to help this project ;-)

just get a svn client and check out the sourcecode. when you added functions, or fixed/changed stuff, just create a .diff file with the svn client and upload the patch at http://tweetmypc.codeplex.com/SourceControl/list/patches/upload

after a few patches, we can add you to the official developer team and then you will get write access to the code repository.

May 30, 2011 at 6:01 PM

cool! I'll try to see when I get time.
